Launch Your Mobile App: Generating a Privacy Policy
HOST
A privacy policy is a statement or legal document that discloses some or all the ways you gather, use, disclose and manage your customers' data. And, without one of these, you cannot host an app in the App and Google Play Stores.
So, in this video, we’ll cover how to create your privacy policy — and why it’s important when launching your mobile app.
To do this, we’ll go over three things.
You’ll learn what a privacy policy is..
How to generate one..
And, some legal disclaimers to know about.
So, what is a privacy policy — and, why is it important?
Simply put, a privacy policy is a legal document that discloses some or all of the ways a business gathers, uses, discloses, and manages a customer’s data. Its purpose is to inform website visitors exactly which personal information is gathered by your site or mobile app, how it's used, and how it's protected.
Now, why is this important?
Well, if you collect any personal information from your website visitors, you are required by law to have a privacy policy posted on your website and mobile app listing.
And, personal information can be as simple as their name. So, you’re likely going to be collecting some type of info.
And, for any reason, if a dispute arises about the way your business used someone’s information, a privacy policy may provide some liability insurance, which is always a good thing.
But, all legal requirements aside; a privacy policy can be an important part of fostering trust and transparency between you and your customers.
And, bringing legal requirements back in; your business actually needs one to provide a safeguard for both you and your customers.
So, as far as actually making one of these — it’s more simple than you might think.
To do this, go to Shopify’s privacy policy generator..
Scroll down and skip the Shopify trial..
Because, you likely already have a Shopify account, if you already have a store.
Enter the required information and select, ‘Send me my privacy policy’..
From there, Shopify will email you a link to your Privacy Policy.
Simply click on the link..
And, you have a full Privacy Policy in text that you can copy and paste wherever you need. And, if needed, you can edit any of this text as well.
And, there’s one thing to add here.
These templates are not official legal advice. And, by using them you essentially agree to the disclaimer that you can read here.
It’s basically saying that you should consult with somebody before publishing these agreements. Or, you at least should read them yourself.
As a piece of non-legal advice; I’d say read anything you’re about to post on your site, or your mobile app, whether it’s a legal requirement or not.
That’s my two-cents on it — I’ll leave the rest to you.
And, that’s it; you now know how to generate a privacy policy and are ready to post this to your site and mobile app listing, allowing you to submit your app to the App and Google Play Stores.
