Launching Your Mobile App: Keeping Your Apple Developer Account Up-To-Date
Tapcart helps you launch a mobile app on the App Store that seamlessly integrates with your Shopify store.
Now, as a manager of your store, you don’t want anything to inhibit people from finding your app.
By keeping your Apple Developer Account up to date you can help make sure your shoppers can easily find your app.
The things we cover in this lesson will allow us to seamlessly keep your app updated. That way, you can access our new features and experience optimal functionality while making sure your app is easy to find for your shoppers.
To do this, we’ll go over three things..
Updating your license agreement..
Your Free or Paid Applications agreement…
Updating your membership..
And, setting up an auto-renew membership for your account.
So first, updating your program license agreement, also known as your PLA.
To use Apple developer tools and services, you will need to adhere to the terms in the PLA.
Now, this can get updated at anytime by Apple — and, you simply need to sign off that you agree.
Not updating this can inhibit your mobile app’s discoverability for your shoppers. It can also inhibit Tapcart’s ability to update your app, and your ability to access new features.
Now, these updates aren’t happening every day, so you don’t need to focus on it too much, but Apple still releases a new agreement update every couple of months. So, it’s good to be aware of this.
It’s also worth noting here that Apple will send you an email, letting you know to update your PLA to the email address that is registered on your Apple Developer account.
So, I’ll walk you through how to update this to avoid any barriers to your app.
Log in to your Apple Developer account..
If you see this banner, it means that Apple has released their new license agreement. And, by accepting this, you’re letting Apple know that you are adhering to these updates, allowing your account to pass any regulations necessary to be utilizing the platform.
So, simply review the agreement..
Agree to the terms..
And, you’re all set.
Similar to the PLA, the free or paid application agreements are released periodically and will also require your sign off, for us to update your app to ensure optimal functionality.
Again, you will be notified via email when this agreement update is required. But we’ll walk you through the steps to complete this!
This time we’ll log in to your App Store Connect account…
If you see this banner it means Apple has released a new Free or Paid Apps agreement. To sign off on the agreement select, ‘Agreements, Tax, and Banking’ and then open the pending agreement to review and agree to the terms.
Now, for your membership; every Apple Developer account has an annual fee associated with the subscription. If your membership expires, this will make your apps
unavailable to the App Store for users to download.
So, I’ll walk you through how to renew your membership if your subscription expires.
Log into your App Developer account..
Once logged in, look for a banner stating your membership is about to expire, or has already expired..
Click on the banner.. And, you will be redirected to enter your credit card information for renewal.
Enter that in, and your membership is back up-and-running — along with your app, in the App Store.
It’s important to note that your app can take up to twenty-four hours to be available for download again in the app store — which can be a considerable amount of time.
So, let’s talk about how to avoid your subscription from expiring in the first place.
To do this, we recommend setting your Apple Developer account on auto-renew right after your initial enrollment with Apple — this will essentially avoid any disruption to
your subscription from the start.
To do this, if you’re not already logged in.. login to your Apple Developer Account..
Click the ‘Membership’ menu..
Scroll down to the ‘Settings’ section..
Click on ‘Edit default debit/credit card’..
And, you’ll be sent over to the Apple ID website.
From there, go to the ‘Payment and Shipping’..
And, click on ‘Edit’.
Set your card info..
And, save the changes.
And, if for any reason you need help with any of this, you can always reach out to your Implementation Specialist here at Tapcart, or our support team for additional assistance
And there you go; you now know how to keep your Apple Developer Account up to date, and avoid inhibiting your mobile app’s discoverability and Tapcart’s ability to update your app to ensure optimal functionality.
