DESIGN YOUR APP: GETTING STARTED WITH YOUR APP MENU
The menu sidebar, also called the hamburger menu, helps users navigate your app and find exactly what they’re looking for.
This is where you can add additional navigation items to create your brand’s mobile content hub.
We’ll cover two things in this lesson..
An overview of the menu features..
And, how to add and edit menu items.
Now, to customize all of the menu items covered in this lesson..
Head over to your ‘Tapcart Dashboard’..
And, under the ‘App Design’ tab, switch to the ‘Menu’ toggle.
Here, you can edit everything you need in your menu sidebar.
So, let’s take a look at what we’re working with here.
You can see, we have a variety of menu items that we can edit or remove.
And, we can add new items as well.
When we add a new item, we have a variety of items to utilize in two categories.
The icon is the image that will be shown on the menu item.
And, the destination is the location your users will arrive, once they select the menu option.
It’s important to note that all of the menu items, except for the ‘Webpage’ item, link to native destinations within the app.
Leveraging the ‘Webpage’ option will allow you to link to external content..
Such as blog posts..
The webpage will open within your app..
And, once the user closes the page..
They will be navigated back to your app’s menu.
Now that we have all that covered..
Let’s go ahead and create our own menu item.
To get started..
Simply select ‘Add Menu Item’..
And, this window appears.
Now, let’s say we want to add a menu item that leads users to the ‘Notification Center’.
We can select ‘Notification View’..
And, choose an icon for this item..
Then, we can add the title for this menu option.
We want to be clear with our titles, so the user knows exactly where they are navigating to within the app.
For this menu option, I’ll title it ‘Notifications’..
And, once we save the ‘Menu Item’..
You can modify the order this menu is listed within your sidebar.
As a pro-tip, you don’t want to add too many items to your menu.
Remember, this menu is supposed to simplify the navigation and ease for your app users..
Add items that you feel your users actually need, and can help their experience.
Now, when it comes to editing any of these items, we can do three things.
We can arrange the order here..
By simply dragging-and-dropping the items on the menu..
We can edit the icon..
And, title of the item..
And, we can remove items if needed.
So, there you go. You now understand how to utilize your app’s menu sidebar to help users navigate your app and find exactly what they’re looking for.
